The Weaving Way exists because I spent most of my life trying to fix something in myself that conventional paths couldn’t touch. I found what worked. This is the short version of how.
I grew up religious, and it stopped working for me by the time I was a teenager — not the way people mean when they say they “lost their faith,” but darker than that. I was a deeply depressed kid long before I had words for it. By the time I hit my own crisis in high school, everything I’d been handed to deal with it — the religion, the expectations — had stopped working. When I found the Dao De Jing, it didn’t ask me to kneel to anything, or fear anything, or fake anything. It asked me to see what was actually true. That was the first thing that ever really worked.
It took years to actually live it. A failed marriage. Nearly losing a second one. More false starts than I like counting. None of it was linear — I’d get somewhere real, then slide back into being the guy who couldn’t be trusted, who wasn’t safe to love, and have to find my way back again.
Today I run a family business full-time. The dojo and The Weaving Way aren’t how I pay the bills — they’re what I’d do anyway. I have a wife, three kids, a full life. My mind is clear. My relationships work.
I’m intense — piercing, precise, sometimes a lot. That intensity is aimed at you growing, not at me proving anything. I think in systems, and the work I’ve built is sophisticated, because reality is sophisticated. Sophisticated isn’t the same as complicated. What we actually do is ruthlessly practical.
I also think this work is a blast, and that life — consequences and all — is hilarious. I don’t take myself too seriously. When I catch my own nonsense, my own misalignment, I get excited about it, not defensive, because it means there’s something real to work with. In practice, that makes the whole thing lighter than it sounds. We laugh a lot.
If you want soft affirmations and a little incense smoke, I’m probably not your guy. If you’re serious about doing real work — studying, training, being challenged and supported at the same time — it doesn’t matter if you’re starting from zero or twenty years in. We’ll be effective together.
Let’s have a conversation. That’ll tell you more than any page can.
